Credentials & Accreditation:

LifeGeno is a NABL accredited laboratory in compliance with ISO 15189 standards. Adherence to these standards assures highest level of quality in medical laboratory testing.

The lab follows College of American pathologists (CAP) guidelines. The CAP is an internationally recognized organization known for its advancement of quality in laboratory medicine. Adopting to these guidelines helps laboratory professionals to provide more effective testing with consistent, high-quality results, expert interpretations thus patient's diagnoses are also accurate.

Overview

The department boasts of the latest specialized hi-end equipment. Headed by a Medical Geneticist, with more than three decades of clinical exposure in top Institutes worldwide. The technical team consists of post graduates & doctorates with extensive experience in the field of Molecular Biology & Bio-Technology. The lab is designed as per recommendations of CDC (Center for Disease Control & Prevention, USA) offering high precision diagnosis adhering to guidelines laid down by CAP (College of American Pathologists) and NABL (India). It has been approved by the Govt. of Maharashtra, Public Health Department & is registered under the Pre-Conception & Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act.

Molecular biology based diagnostic tests (DNA tests by PCR, NGS, SANGER) have a greater Sensitivity & Specificity than most of the other diagnostic modalities. The instruments and kits used are all approved by CE-IVD, US-FDA, and CDSCO for diagnostic applications.

Besides offering highly sensitive DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, the department also offers CARRIER TESTING (for family members), PRENATAL TESTING (to know if the new-born will be normal), SUSCEPTIBILITY TESTING (to know if one is at risk), PREDICTIVE TESTING (to inform chances of developing the condition later in life), and PERSONALIZED TESTING (to know a person’s individual response to certain life saving drugs).

CYTOGENETICS:

The lab performs Tissue Culture from all human & fetal tissues, harvesting metaphases with High Resolution Giemsa Banding & other Specialized Banding like R-banding & Q-banding as indicated for specific conditions and examined for any numerical or structural abnormalities (eg: trisomy’s, translocations, deletions, etc.) on chromosomes. Using automated Karyotyping software, the patient’s chromosome charts are printed & given along with the report maintaining complete privacy and confidentiality. As per PC&PNDT act, the sex of the fetus is not revealed and is a punishable offense to do so.

FLUORESCENT IN-SITU HYBRIDIZATION (FISH):

This is a unique technology combining Cytogenetic techniques and Molecular principles. Specific probes are hybridized with the patient’s sample as per condition indicated. These are visualized under a Fluorescent Microscope. Different colored signals tell us whether the suspected condition is confirmed or excluded. FISH can be performed on direct preparations as well as on cultured cells.

MOLECULAR GENETICS & IVD ASSAY DEVELOPMENT:

In the molecular section, Nucleic Acid (DNA/RNA) based testing is done using latest, well-established techniques including Real–Time PCR, Qualitative PCR, Quantitative, PolyAcrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE), Agarose Gel Electrophoresis (AGE), Single Strand Conformation Polymorphism (SSCP), Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP), Reverse Transcription (RT) PCR, Oligonucleotide Hybridization and Amplification Refractory Mutation System (ARMS-PCR). The equipments and kits used are all US-FDA / CE-IVD approved for Diagnostic applications. Genetic Medicine is an ever growing field. ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS:

Among the Advanced technologies, we are offering Next Generation Sequencing for examining several genes together in a timely, and cost effective manner. Chromosomal Microarray offers a highly sensitive method for Molecular Karyotyping in tissues such as Abortus Material, where Conventional Cytogenetics has a high failure rate
